Access to Reserve Textbooks

Visit the Textbooks on Reserve page to view textbooks available for in-library use.

Use of reserve textbooks is one of the most popular services we offer.  We understand that the college's transition to mostly online learning is disruptive to your routine of accessing the print textbooks available in the library.  Textbook lending is based on in-person borrowing of print textbooks.  Textbooks are due at closing time of the day they are borrowed.

Circulating / Borrowed Materials

Items that are due or overdue may be returned to the Library building. No fines will be charged for items that are returned late in good condition.  Please note: There are NO EXCEPTIONS for fees/fines associated with textbook reserve loans. Any textbook borrowed must be returned by closing that same day or fees will apply.

We encourage materials to be returned to the book drop in the Library's entrance vestibule 24/7.

For any questions regarding your library account or borrowed items, please email library-service-desk@hvcc.edu or call (518) 629-7336. A Library staff member will get back to you within 24 business hours.

Equipment lending

Borrow a laptop or a GoPro from the First Floor Service Desk.  Learn more about Equipment Lending!

Exception:  Lending of headphones remains unavailable.  Bring your own earbuds!

If you need to use audio output (for example, Zoom) with a college owned computer, you must bring your own wired headphones!  Note that AirPods, wireless Beats, and similar wireless headphones are not compatible with college computers.  You'll need the old fashioned wired style and USB jack is STRONGLY recommended!

Make a reservation online and stop by the first floor service desk to check in and to borrow a key.

Research Assistance

There are multiple ways to get research assistance.  HVCC librarians are available through live chat (with screenshare option), email, and phone from the Ask a Librarian platform during the following hours and will meet in-person in the Writing and Research Center or by appointment:

View our service hours listing here.

For research assistance outside of these hours, use the "Ask Us 24/7" chat service linked from the Ask a Librarian page.  This service is available 24/7; services are provided by librarians from cooperating libraries located across the globe.

Resource Sharing

Resource Sharing is a set of services offered to HVCC students and employees to provide direct access to materials from other libraries. Items not available from Dwight Marvin Library may be requested from other libraries.  Learn more about Resource Sharing on the Library's website

Dwight Marvin Library has resumed accepting requests for books, DVDs and print articles in addition to electronic articles. Please note that quarantine procedures are in place in some libraries and delivery of materials may be delayed. We encourage you to contact us if you have a deadline or short time frame for obtaining an item.

You will be notified via your HVCC email when materials are available. Resource Sharing items may be returned to the First Floor Service Desk or to the Library's book drop in the building entrance vestibule. If you cannot come to campus to pick up or return materials, please let us know and we will make alternative arrangements.

If you have questions regarding a Resource Sharing request or item, please email library-resource-sharing@hvcc.edu. For more information about Resource Sharing, including how to make a request, please see our Resource Sharing guide.
