Anxiety is a feeling of unease or worry in response to a perceived threat or danger. Not everyone who experiences anxiety has an anxiety disorder. Anxiety is considered a mental illness when it is persistent and significantly affects a person's ability to function (Source: American Psychiatric Association). There are different types of anxiety disorders. Some of the materials below focus on a specific anxiety disorder, and some discuss anxiety disorders in general.
Depression is a mental illness that causes persistent feelings of sadness, disinterest, or hopelessness along with difficulties sleeping, eating, making decisions, or concentrating. (Source: Cleveland Clinic). It is different than regular sadness; depression interferes with a person's ability to live their life for at least two weeks at a time, while sadness does not. There are different types of depression. Some of the materials below focus on a specific type of depression, and some discuss depression in general.
