The exact definition of trauma varies depending on the context. In general, trauma is an emotional reaction to an event (or series of events) that was disturbing enough to overwhelm the brain's ability to process what happened (Source: Psychology Today). Sometimes, people who experience trauma develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or another mental illness. Some of the materials below focus on specific mental health conditions that arise from trauma, and some discuss trauma more generally.
