General Searching Tips

Using AND

  • AND is the default in most databases and in Google
  • It is the default in OneSearch, the library's discovery service for articles, books, etc.

Using advanced search

  • The advanced search is useful for creating a specific search but also giving the option to make it a little bigger within a certain focus.
  • Remember to use the Advanced Search in Google and Google Scholar

Finding keywords in the title

  • When using the advanced search, select to put your keywords in the title which will help to focus your search effectively.

Search terms:  honey bees vs. honeybees

  • Always try different terms such as honey bee and honeybee
  • Look at articles to find additional terms to use for your search
  • Searching is a discovery process so be open to looking at your topic from a different angle or perspective

Books/Ebooks

  • Ebooks are available through the OneSearch .  Choose to search in the library catalog and select online to get the ebooks we own.
