The course offers an advanced study of the ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and the HCPCS coding systems with emphasis on accurate code sequencing of complex medical/surgical cases.
Students will use case studies, health records, and federal regulations regarding payment systems and methods of reimbursement. Students willworkwith both inpatient and outpatient claims forms to gain knowledge of the billing process.
Emphasis will be placed on coding in the outpatient setting.
Students will investigate through assigned research reimbursement and coding topics including: DRGs, APCs, RBRVs, Chargemasters, Coding Compliance, ICD-10, encoding and grouping software.
