Can I Use This Source?

Is This Source Okay to Use? Great Question!

Before using any source, it is best to evaluate it. We recommend using the ACT UP method when doing so. ACT UP is an acronym. Each letter stands for a different piece of the article you should review.

  • Author: Who wrote the source? Who published it?

  • Currency: When was it published? Has the field of study changed?

  • Truth: Can you find where they gathered their information?

  • Unbiased: Is this impartial? Are there conflicts of interest? Are they upfront about their biases?

  • Privilege: Is anyone missing from the conversation? Who is included? Who has access?
