This OneSearch video [5:11] provides a general overview of OneSearch, a tool that searches most of the library's resources, teaches students how to apply filters to narrow search results, and reviews features of using library account.

What is OneSearch?

HVCC's OneSearch provides simple one-stop searching for books and e-books, videos, articles, digital media and more.

How should I search in OneSearch?

When searching in OneSearch, be sure to sign-in. sign in button
You will be prompted to use Single Sign-On for HVCC authentication. OneSearch has several features once you sign in, including:
  • Review and renew loans
  • Make requests for pickup
  • Personal favorites list
  • Save searches
  • Request items from resource sharing

How do I limit my search results? magnifier button

Use the dropdown menu in the search box by selecting the magnifier to limit your search to one of the following:
  • Everything

Search almost everything, physical books, e-books, magazine, newspaper, and scholarly journal articles, streaming video, and more! Some databases are not included in OneSearch. Worried you could miss something? Ask a Librarian if you should search in a subject-driven database for additional or more focused results.

  • HVCC Catalog

Search for print and e-books, DVDs, print journals, and other physical items owned by the library.

  • Textbooks on Reserve

Search to see if the library owns copies of your course textbooks. Textbooks are located at the first floor service desk on the main level of the Marvin Library. Books are borrowed for the day and cannot leave the building.

  • SUNY Catalog

Search for books and DVDs available from other SUNY libraries and available through resource sharing.

How do I refine my search results?

Use the filters on the left side of the search results to refine search results by availability, date, type of source, subject, database, and more.

How do I view a record?

Select the item's title to see full details. Tools to email, cite and print as well as access the item are also available on this page.

How do I save an item to my favorites? pin icon

See an item you would like to save for later? Select the pin icon to the right of your search item to save it as a favorite. Keep in mind, if you are not signed in, the item will only be saved temporarily.

What is my search history? search history button

OneSearch will temporarily save your searches during the time your browser is open. To save your search permanently, sign in using Single Sign-On and select the save search button above your search results. Access your temporary search history by selecting the counter clock wise button in the upper right corner.

How do I save a search? save search button

To save a search, click on the save search button above your listed search results.

How do I access my favorites and my saved searches?

To access your favorites and saved searches when signed in, select your name in the upper right corner. A drop down menu will appear with links to access account information, manage current loans, make requests, and access favorite items and saved searches.

How to I access my account?

To sign in, select 'Sign In' in the upper right corner of the screen.

Next, select 'HVCC students, faculty and staff' you will be prompted to sign in using Single Sign-On.

To access your account, select your name in the upper right corner and then 'Library Account'.
